Foxtail Farm promotes a sane, local food system by providing members with the freshest, healthiest produce possible at a fair and economical price. They use only natural methods and use no chemical fertilizers or pesticides.
Foxtail Farm is located in the St. Croix River Valley south of Osceola, Wis., about 50 minutes northeast of the Twin Cities. They have already sold out of their 300 memberships for the 2011 growing season. Weekly shares include 7 to 12 different vegetables and weigh 15-30 pounds. They are heavy on the favorites such as genovese basil, sweet corn, Yukon Gold potatoes, tomatoes and salad greens. In addition, they include a little of the unusual. They are sure to mix a little fun in with their hard work, by hosting a Kids’ Day and an annual Fall Harvest Festival.
Boxes are delivered on Thursday afternoons in the northeast metro area, including much of St. Paul, Minneapolis and the St. Croix River Valley towns of Taylors Falls, Osceola, Marine on St. Croix and Stillwater. They are delivered directly to members’ homes or workplaces, and a reduced price is charged when multiple boxes are dropped at a single location or if the shares are picked up at the farm.
The season runs from approximately mid-June through mid-October and averages 19 weeks. Paul and Chris are very down to earth, welcoming and have proven to be quite skilled in farming. They sell out every year. Members are not required to work, but are always welcome on the farm. We learned this quickly, as we chatted the hour away over a cup of hot tea in their 'just like home' farm house.
